Staying Home? Here Is My List Of Lesser-Known Gearhead Car Movies I Love
I'm a gearhead. I love classic cars, Jeeps and car movies. Basically, if it has pistons and a steering wheel I'm pretty interested. When it comes to car movies we all have our favorites and some of them are ones that every gearhead already knows. Like, The "Fast and Furious" franchise, "Smokey and The Bandit", "Gone In 60 Seconds" (both versions), "Bullitt" and "American Graffiti".
Here's a list of some of my favorite lesser-known gearhead movies for car lovers. I will admit some of them aren't going to be up to the production value of a Fast and Furious movie, but I'll bet you'll be entertained....even if you're laughing AT the movie.
Two-Lane Blacktop (1971)
You can't go wrong with two guys, singer James Tayler and Beach Boys drummer Dennis Wilson, driving across the country drag racing for "pinks" in a 1955 Chevy.
Dirty Mary Crazy Larry (1974)
Peter Fonda at his non-motorcycle coolest. The Chevy Bel Air isn't so cool at first, but wait until they steal the 1968 Charger!
Greased Lightning (1977)
Richard Pryer.....yes, THAT Richard Pryor as Wendall Scott, a taxi driver, and bootlegger who became the first black driver to win a NASCAR Grand National Series race.
The Car (1977)
This really stupid, but highly entertaining movie is basically JAWS as a car with a touch of Christine mixed in. James Brolin as the Sheriff trying to stop this killer car.
Vanishing Point (1971)
Basically, this is one big Dodge Challenger commercial. Watch is hired to transport a car from Colorado to California. One of the best parts of the movie, other than the driving stunts, is Clevon Little as radio DJ Super Soul.
