The United States supported South Vietnam in the Vietnam War, with direct military involvement from 1965 until 1973. During that time, according to the National Archives, the United States suffered 58,311 military fatal casualties.

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C. honors the men and women who served in the Vietnam War with a list of the names of 58,318 Americans who gave their lives in service to their country. This summer a replica of the wall is coming to New York.

It was made for the purpose of helping heal and rekindle friendships and to allow people the opportunity to visit loved ones in their home town who otherwise may not be able to make the trip to Washington.
