This Saturday, U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency is hosting it's annual Prescription Drug Takeback Day.

For the 16th year in a row, the Drug Takeback Day is being held to help people safely get rid of old, expired, or not-used prescription medications.  The Times Union has a great chart on ALL of the locations that you can go to turn in your prescription medications, this Saturday, the 27th.  You can find the list of locations here.

Why turn these in and not just flush them down the toilet or throw them away?  Well, multiple reasons.  First off- the drug epidemic. I can't even begin to tell you how many times I hear about peoples medications being stolen.  You can do your part to safely get rid of medications and reduce risk with this epidemic.

Secondly, safe disposal is key.  What happens when you flush your meds down the toilet? They wind up in the water supply!  There was a whole news report the other year about levels of blood pressure medications and caffeine and such in the local waterways.  And if you throw them in the trash? People can still go through trash and grab a pill bottle.  Get all the info on the Drug Takeback Day here.
