Watch This Video of An Incredible Moose Encounter In the Adirondacks
Incredible moose encounter in the Adirondacks caught on video! You have to watch the video below that captures the moment a canoeist came face to face with a moose cooling off in a beautiful New York lake.
The video shared on social media by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has over 13,000 'likes' and understandably so. It's not every day that you get to see a moose in their natural habitat.

Some of the Best Places to Spot Moose in New York State include the Adirondacks where the majority of moose sightings occur in the Empire State. More specifically Vermontville, NY, along Route 3, and Meacham Lake along Route 30 are 2 of the best places to find moose.
No specific location of this encounter was given aside from saying it was in the area of the Moose River Plains Wild Forest in the central Adirondacks. Take a look.
The DEC reports that moose are excellent swimmers. They can close their nostrils to dive and forage for vegetation. This adaptation is important since 25% of a moose’s diet is aquatic vegetation. Here are some tips should you encounter moose on your travels in New York State:
- Do not approach- keep a respectful distance and back away
- Do not harass- moose are large animals that can be potentially dangerous
- Control your pets- keep dogs leashed
- Use caution when driving especially at dawn or dusk
