Wow! Is Tik Tok Behind Halloween Hoax in East Greenbush?
Earlier today we reported that a needle was found in Halloween candy here in the Capital Region. Were we tricked by a 'TikTok-O-Treater'? Some say the social media outlet is behind yet another "prank" and this one is as dumb as the last.
According to CBS6 Albany, East Greenbush police have now confirmed that the needle found in a Twix candy bar on Halloween was placed there by the 14-year-old who claimed to find it! The boy now says he got the idea from TikTok.
On Monday East Greenbush police urged families through out the Capital Region to check their Halloween candy for needles and pins as a needle was allegedly found in a Twix bar and the bar had been collected in the neighborhood near Columbia Turnpike and Route 4.
Late today, police have confirmed the needle was put there by the 14-year-old who claimed to find it. The youth alleged he bit into the Twix bar the day after Halloween and it contained a sewing needle which was placed there by an unknown person. The 14-year-old has now been arrested and released to probation.
It appears TikTok strikes again! There is now a history of social media posts encouraging people to do things like destroy school bathrooms, deface public property and now to stick needles in Halloween candy.

What about the rest of the reports from New York and Ohio? Are all of them TikTok pranks? ABC News 10 reported Monday that needles and pins were reported in Halloween candy in Gloversville and Hoosick Falls. Outside of New York USA Today reports that parents of a child from Ohio found a sewing needle planted inside a KitKat bar they received.
