Not everyone has a pool. Or maybe your pool is not big enough. Or maybe you don’t like the only people in your neighborhood that have a pool. Or, maybe, they don’t like you. The beaches are too far away and the good lakes are just far enough to be an inconvenience, so some of us have to settle for public pools, but which one is the best?

I have only ever been to the Public Pool at the Colonie Town Park. My folks used to take me all the time when I was a kid because no one in our neighborhood had a pool. I have some very fond memories of that pool, like playing with cheap plastic boats in the kiddie pool that is actually a puddle.

The locker rooms are kind of creepy no matter what age you are and the snack bar is pretty good from what I remember.

They have two pools there, the shallow pool and the deep pool, I spent most of my time swimming in the shallower waters when I used to go.

One time I had a nose bleed and did not know it, I went under the water and swam up to my mom, when I came up my face was covered in blood and I said: “ Hey Mom!”

She was really surprised.

They have a really cool high-dive at the Colonie Town Park’s pool. For years I was terrified of it and would climb to the top only to climb back down from the top. Eventually, I found the courage to climb up to the top and jump and I did not even plug my nose but by then we had stopped going to the public as often as we did before.

I’ve heard good things and bad things about other local public pools but I would like to get to the bottom of this public pool question, pun so intended.
