Capital Region Given Warning About Ticks
With warmer weather comes bugs, creatures, and critters of all kinds. Of course, that includes ticks. As reported by News Channel 13, the Department of Health is urging Capital Region residents to be on the lookout for ticks. Last year seemed to me to be one of the worst tick seasons I can remember.
It felt like every time I walked outside, I’d find a tick (or multiple) on me. News Channel 13 reports that Lyme Disease rates have been on the rise for about 15 years. Last year the Capital Region also had to deal with the Powassan Virus, another dangerous tick-transmitted disease.
According to News Channel 13’s report, a tick has to be on you for 36 hours to transmit Lyme disease, so it’s important to check regularly to catch the ticks before you hit that marker. After the amount of ticks I dealt with last year, I know that I’ll be checking! Have you found one yet this year?
