A Wednesday afternoon accident on Central Avenue in Colonie caused the busy road to go to only one lane on the eastbound side.

It happened right around noon in the area of Rapple Road in front of Best Fire. Utility crews are working on repairing the pole and the lines.

The right lane on the eastbound side of Central Avenue is shut down as work continues. It's not known if the pole was knocked completely over, but it can be seen leaning heavily to the left as crews try to fix it.


No word from National Grid on how many or if any lost power due to the crash's impact on the utility pole.

This after an already treacherous day on the roads when a six car pile up on I-90 killed two people and shut down the Thruway for several hours from Wednesday morning to Wednesday afternoon. Much of the traffic from that previous incident was being re-routed - much of it to Central Ave.

April 5, 1987 the bridge carrying the Thruway over the Schoharie Creek collapsed in Montgomery County. Ten people were killed after immense rain caused the foundation of the bridge to buckle.
