Dozens of People Waited in Line to Buy Phish Tickets at the TU Box Office
A friend of mine was in downtown Albany this morning waiting for tickets to go on sale at the box office and it got me thinking about the last time I did the same and which bands I would still do that for.
With the advances in technology now days it isn't really a necessity to have to camp out in front of the box office and wait in line to get tickets to see your favorite band or artist play. Most people just hop online or open an app and click to get their tickets.
This morning tickets to see the jam band favorite Phish at the Times Union Center in Albany this October went on sale. I kind of laughed at my friend when he told me last night that he was getting up early to go get in line to buy tickets at the actual box office but the more I thought about it the more I realized that it's kind of sad that the youth of today don't get to experience that kind of camaraderie with fellow music lovers anymore.
This morning I was even more surprised when he texted and said there were about 100 other Phish Phans all waiting to get tickets. When I asked why he didn't just get them online like the majority of concert goers now days it began to make sense. By purchasing at the venue you definitely save on all those exorbitant "processing fees" but he said that you get that rush of show day well ahead of the show, you get to pick out the seats that you want, and he said that he also made friends in line.
So it got me thinking about the last time I waited in line to get tickets the day they went on sale and to be honest it's been a long time and the most recent memory I had was actually at a Ticketmaster outlet or record store and not at the actual box office.
Then I started thinking about if there was any band that I would go wait in line to get tickets for the day they went on sale? I have learned two things 1.) I am very spoiled when it comes to shows and concert tickets and 2.) I don't know if there is a band that I would do that for? Unless I happen to be off and in the area I guess. Now I would definitely stop by a venue to grab tickets to avoid all those crazy fees though!
When was the last time you waited in line for tickets to go on sale and who would you wait in line for now?
