WATCH! Heartbreaking Video of Brush Fire Evacuations In New York State
New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) reports that the entire State of New York is currently listed between a moderate to very high risk of fire danger due to lack of rain, very dry and windy conditions. Some towns are at such risk, residents are volunteering to leave their homes.
Take a look at the heartbreaking video below to see just how close to fire tragedy some neighborhoods are. You will see the fire line creeping close to homes as first responders, fire and police respond to fight the blaze.
On Saturday November 16th, according to a post on the New York State Police Facebook page, New York State Police teamed up with Town of Warwick Police to conduct a voluntary evacuation of approximately 40 to 50 homes.
Watch the video below to see evacuation efforts underway as the fire line blazes just a few acres away from the homes along Edgemere Drive and East Shore Road in Greenwood Lake, NY.
This particular evacuation is in reaction to the ongoing Jennings Creek, Sterling Forest brushfire. This is the same fire that claimed the life of 18-year-old Dariel Vasquez of the State Parks Wildland fire crew. ABC7 is reporting that 90% of this particular fire has been contained.
New York State DEC, New York State Police and volunteer crews are working with New York State Police Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) to monitor the fire and assess distances from the fire line to the residences.
