
Cohoes Man Arrested After Fiery Crash On I-787 In Capital Region
Capital Region resident arrested following a car crash that set the vehicle on fire and sent several people to the hospital. It appears this individual was driving under the influence.
The New York State Police issued 8,263 tickets during a special STOP-DWI traffic enforcement initiative conducted over Super Bowl weekend. The campaign ran from Friday, February 6, 2026, through Sunday, February 8, 2026. During the enforcement period, State Troopers arrested 177 drivers for DWI, one of which was this incident in the Capital Region.

On Saturday February 7th at approximately 2am, New York State Troopers responded to the report of a two-car crash on I-787 northbound in Watervliet with one vehicle on fire.
The investigation determined one vehicle traveling northbound on I-787 struck the rear of another northbound vehicle. Following the collision, the car that was struck hit the guiderail. The car that made the initial contact crashed into the concrete median, and caught fire.
The driver of the car on fire, 27-year-old Dennis W. Green, and an adult passenger were able to get out of the fiery vehicle. An unconscious passenger in the backseat was removed by Good Samaritans and transported to Albany Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The adult passenger of Green’s vehicle and the driver of the other vehicle involved were transported to area hospitals with minor injuries.
State Police of Latham arrested Dennis W. Green of Cohoes, for Vehicular Assault 2nd, Driving While Intoxicated, and numerous other vehicle and traffic law violations. Green was transported to State Police Latham where he was arrested and recorded a 0.16% Blood Alcohol Concentration.
